Day 5 - Walk tour around Victoria
Talking a self-guided walking tour around Victoria
Go to the Victoria BC museum. Give yourself a good couple of hours to get round this. It's a truly exceptional and educational museum.
Walk to Fisherman's wharf. Have a good look around the floating shops before getting the water taxi back to central Victoria. Go for a drink at Fairmont Empress near the drop off point.
Grab dinner
Day 6 - Hire a car and drive to Tofino
Hire a car from Victoria (make sure you try and get an upgrade)
It's an all day drive so make sure you have a good breakfast
There are a number of good places to stay on the beach but if you're not staying in Tofino town then you will need to drive to most places.
We can recommend dinner at Sobo
Day 7 - Whale watching
Have a chilled out morning, grab some lunch and then head out for some whale watching. We used Jamies who were good fun and knowledgable.
It depends on what time of year that you're there, from March onwards you have a good chance of seeing whales. We saw plenty of sea otters, walruses and seals but no whales. We wish you
better luck!
We can recommend the (expensive) Pointe Restaurant at the Wickannish Inn. It's expensive but if you can there before sundown, the restaurant has great views.
Day 8 - Meares Island
You will need to book ahead but head out after breakfast for a trip to Meares Island. You will need to get a water taxi. This will drop you off at a rocky outcrop on Meares Island. Don't
be alarmed, that is the official drop off point.
Before you go make sure you get armed with some bear spray. You almost certainly won't need to use it but it the island does have bears on it and better to be safe than sorry.
Walk around the island (it starts off on a wooden walkway but descends into a muddy path and you may need to scramble your way around parts of it. The whole walk takes about an hour an a
half.
Once you get back to Tofino drive to the Tacofino food truck for their amazing tacos. We challenge you not to go back for seconds.
There are a number of excellent circular walks you can do along the coast. Remember to catch a sunset, some of the most amazing we have ever seen.
